On the morning of Friday, January 28, 2022, the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche awarded Marie Johnston, Professor Emeritus of Health Psychology at the University of Aberdeen (United Kingdom), an Honorary Doctorate, during the feast of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The sponsors of the new Honorary Doctorate were María Ángeles Pastor Mira and Sofía López Roig, professors of the Department of Social Psychology at the UMH. During the ceremony, 88 new doctors were also awarded, and 12 Extraordinary Doctoral Awards were presented.

Marie Johnston is a clinical and health psychologist, registered in the United Kingdom. She is a member of scientific and academic societies, both in the fields of psychology and medicine, such as the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Academy of Learned Societies for the Social Sciences, the British Psychological Society, the American Society of Behavioral Medicine, the European Society of Health Psychology, and the Behavioral Sciences and Public Health Network. In addition to her work at the University of Aberdeen, she has worked at the universities of St. Andrews, London, and Oxford. He has also received numerous awards and recognitions from scientific and professional societies around the world.

His research has focused on the prediction and explanation of disability and behavioral change in health, always based on the solid foundation of thought provided by theory and the rigor of measurement methodology. With more than 400 publications, his work has broken new ground.
