The Rector of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche has awarded Francisco García Olmedo, a pioneer of plant molecular genetics in Spain, an honorary doctorate. José Luis Micol Molina, Professor of Genetics at the University of Elche, served as sponsor of the new honorary doctorate.

In addition, during the ceremony commemorating Saint Thomas Aquinas, 79 new doctors from the University were awarded, and 15 extraordinary doctoral awards were presented.
