The Rector of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, Juan José Ruiz Martínez, presented the awards this morning for the 6th edition of the “UMH University Management Innovation Week,” the UMH Teaching Talent Awards, and the Academic Excellence Grants. The ceremony was held in the Auditorium of the Severo Ochoa building on the Sant Joan d’Alacant campus.

The event was presided over by the Rector of the UMH, the Vice-Rector for Faculty, José Carlos Espigares Huete, the Vice-Rector for Students and Coordination, José Juan López Espín, the President of the Social Council, Joaquín Pérez Vázquez, and the University Manager, Emma Benlloch Marco.

In the sixth edition of the “UMH University Management Innovation Week” awards, each worth €2,000, the winning projects were: “UMH FreeMobility,” developed by Victoria Arcenegui Baldó of the Innovation and Technical Support Service for Teaching and Research; the interactive online game “Choose Your Adventure at UMH,” by Jesús Martínez Martínez of the Communication Service; and “UMH Design Templates,” by Ángeles Gallar Martínez, also of the Communication Service. The “UMH University Management Innovation Week” is coordinated by the Quality Service and promoted by the Vice-Rectorate for Knowledge Transfer and Exchange and the University Administration.

The UMH FreeMobility project is an application that provides a route from home to easily access any area of the University and is designed especially for people with reduced mobility. Meanwhile, “Choose Your Adventure at UMH” is an interactive “choose your own adventure” game in which users must solve a mystery by following clues related to the different degrees offered at UMH. Upon completing the game, users will discover their professional calling. Finally, the “UMH Design Templates” initiative addresses the daily need of the university community for visual communication aids. The Communications Service can provide the university community with various professionally designed templates that users can adapt to their specific needs.

The jury of the 6th UMH University Management Innovation Week Award also granted an honorable mention to the “Forest of Books” proposal, submitted by Beatriz Gómez Martínez and Jorge Gascón Martínez of the IT Services department. This project involves geolocated literary works in natural areas of the UMH campus, which can be read for free on mobile devices. It demonstrates that it is not necessary to cut down a tree to create a book.

During the event, recognition was also given to the driving force behind the “Spotify UMH: Much More Than Music!” initiative, which is now a reality at the UMH. This podcast service, unique among Spanish universities, aims to strengthen the UMH brand image.

Furthermore, the 25 students with the best academic records from the 2018-2019 academic year received Academic Excellence Grants of €1,000 each. This award falls under the UMH Scholarship and Grant Program of the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Coordination, which recognizes UMH students pursuing undergraduate degrees or official first and/or second cycle qualifications.

Meanwhile, the UMH Vice-Rectorate for Faculty has awarded 90 UMH Teaching Talent prizes, each worth €1,500. These awards are distributed among professors in the academic fields of Health Sciences, Experimental Sciences and Engineering, and Social Sciences, Law, and Humanities. The prizes are part of the Docentia-UMH Program, which has received a positive evaluation from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA).
