ORIGIN: Siberia, China, Korea, Turkestan, India, and Iran.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Deciduous tree with dark gray, longitudinally fissured bark.

INTERESTING FACTS:

  • Its ability to germinate and resprout from the stump makes it invasive, as it can appear growing almost anywhere.

USES:

  • ORNAMENTAL: Used in street plantings and, due to its hardiness, has also been used to create shelterbelts and shade trees in harsh environments.
