CHARACTERISTICS:
- A very attractive deciduous tree due to its leaves and flowers.
- It is distinguished from other trees of the genus Brachychiton because the base of its trunk does not widen.
- It flowers in November-December.

- Brachychiton derives from the Greek: brachys = short and chiton = tunic or covering (possibly alluding to the persistent outer covering of the seeds).
- Its wood was used by Australian Aborigines to make shields.
