ORIGIN: South Africa
CHARACTERISTICS:
Deciduous tree with thorny branches.
It is distinguished from its “sister” species, Erythrina crista-galli, because ours has scarlet-orange flowers, while crista-galli has scarlet-red flowers.
INTERESTING FACTS:
Its spectacular flowers appear when the leaves are absent.
Its name comes from the Kaffir people of South Africa, where it had countless uses.
USES:
ORNAMENTAL: Due to its striking blooms and umbrella-like canopy, it provides excellent shade.
