CHARACTERISTICS:
- Its leaves are deciduous.
- Its flowers are fragrant and very beautiful.
INTERESTING FACTS:
- Its name probably comes from the great resemblance of its flowers to the tulip.
- In the historic Serralves Park in Portugal, you can walk among long rows of lily dendron trees.
- In Spain, a notable specimen is located in the Monastery of Yuste.
USES:
- ORNAMENTAL: A tree of great beauty, both for its form and for its leaves and flowers.
- MEDICINAL: Tulipiferin, an alkaloid used as a stimulant for the heart and nervous system, is extracted from the bark.
