ORIGIN: Eastern North America

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Its leaves are deciduous.
  • Its flowers are fragrant and very beautiful.

INTERESTING FACTS:

  • Its name probably comes from the great resemblance of its flowers to the tulip.
  • In the historic Serralves Park in Portugal, you can walk among long rows of lily dendron trees.
  • In Spain, a notable specimen is located in the Monastery of Yuste.

USES:

  • ORNAMENTAL: A tree of great beauty, both for its form and for its leaves and flowers.
  • MEDICINAL: Tulipiferin, an alkaloid used as a stimulant for the heart and nervous system, is extracted from the bark.
