Solemn Opening Ceremony of the 2017-2018 Academic Year
The Miguel Hernández University of Elche celebrated the official opening of the 2017/2018 academic year on September 26th. This year’s ceremony was special because it coincided with the 20th anniversary of the creation of the UMH and the official opening of the academic year for Valencian public universities. The event was also attended by the President of the Generalitat (Catalan Government), Ximo Puig, the rectors of Valencian public universities, and the president of CRUE (Spanish Universities).
During the ceremony, José María Azorín Poveda, professor of Systems Engineering and Automation at the UMH, gave the inaugural lecture entitled “Brain-Machine Interfaces Based on Electroencephalographic Signals.” In addition, awards were presented to university staff who left the UMH last year due to retirement or death. Prior to the start of the event, an unpublished work by Pepe Azorín entitled “Our Hand” was inaugurated in the lobby of the Rectorate and Social Council building. It represents a hand that opens to welcome and receive without distinction all who approach the UMH.
