The UMH and the Foundation for Treatment Adherence create the first “Chair of Treatment Adherence” in Spain.

The Rector of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche, Jesús Pastor Ciurana, and the Vice President of the Foundation for Treatment Adherence (FUNDOAT-Grupo OAT), José Luis Casteig Ayestarán, signed an agreement this morning to create the “Chair of Treatment Adherence,” the first of its kind in Spain. With the creation of this Chair, both entities aim to improve the understanding and management of treatment adherence within the healthcare sector for various healthcare professionals and patients. Specifically, they seek to optimize treatment monitoring for chronic patients in primary care.

The director of this Chair will be Professor Ernesto Cortés Castell of the Department of Pharmacology, Pediatrics, and Organic Chemistry at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH). Also present at the signing of this agreement were the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the UMH, Manuel Jordán, and members of the Chair’s Advisory Board: Jesús Díaz, Carmen Valdés, and Mercedes Rizo.

The general objectives of the “Chair of Treatment Adherence” are training, research, development, and knowledge transfer in the field of adherence to medical treatments in primary and hospital care, through the implementation of corresponding training activities, research, and the organization of seminars, conferences, and other outreach activities.
