The Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), María Teresa Pérez Vázquez, and the UMH professor and treasurer of the Colibrí Multiple Sclerosis Association (ACEM) of Santa Pola, Pablo Corral González, presented the first Fabiane Carvalho Miranda International Award this morning to Vanessa de Lima Meirelles Nunes for her work “Uma vida de superação” (“A Life of Overcoming”). This award, created by the UMH and ACEM of Santa Pola, includes a prize of 1,000 euros. The award ceremony took place at the Baluarte del Duque de Arcos in the Santa Pola Castle-Fortress.

This award, in the Solidarity and Multiple Sclerosis category, aims to recognize the work of individuals who strive to improve the autonomy, integration, and/or independence of people with Multiple Sclerosis, as well as to support their families and caregivers and contribute to raising awareness of the disease in society.

To select the winning project, the jury considered criteria such as the degree of innovation of the presented initiative, the results obtained, and the social relevance of the work.

The jury consisted of the Vice-Rector for Institutional Relations at UMH, María Teresa Pérez Vázquez; the President of the Red Cross of the Valencian Community, Francisco Javier Gimeno Blanes; the President of the Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities (COCEMFE) Alicante, Antonio Ruescas; the Secretary of ACEM, María Ángela Pereña Caballero; and the association’s Treasurer, Pablo Corral González.
