The University Institute “Center for Operations Research” (CIO) at the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elche has organized the “School for Geeks.” The aim of this initiative is to promote the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) among all children aged 7 to 12 in the province of Alicante, as an extracurricular activity in schools. The Rector of the UMH, Jesús Pastor Ciurana, the Vice-Rector for Planning at the UMH, Fernando Borrás, and the Director of the CIO, Federico Botella, will present this project to representatives from the municipalities of the province of Alicante today, May 12, at 12:00 noon, in the Quorum I building on the Elche campus.

The “School for Geeks” will begin during the 2016-2017 academic year with the goal of sparking children’s interest in the use of technology and computer science. This initiative also aims to teach children computer programming to foster problem-solving skills, logic, and creativity. The project will be divided into five levels, corresponding to children in grades 2 through 6.
