The rector of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) of Elx, Jesús Pastor Ciurana, the president of the Social Council of the UMH, Francisco Borja Miralles, and the vice-rector of Institutional Relations of the University, María Teresa Pérez Vázquez, have presented the third Report on Social Responsibility of the UMH University (RSU), pertaining to the period 2012-2013 of the academic institution.
With this document, the UMH is included in the group of Spanish universities that has a Social Responsibility Report. Furthermore, it is the pioneer in the use of university and non-business indicators, which help to measure, control and value the compliance of the “UMH Social Responsibility Policy and Commitments”
Each of the sets of sections of the general capitol has a significant influence on each of the three categories reviewed in the capitol according to: economics, environmental media and social compliance. The economic category, after being presented through the corresponding GRI indicators, focuses on the effectiveness of management and the transfer of R&D&I results. The environmental mig category is presented in the same way and reviews the sustainability of the corresponding actions. The last category, dedicated to social accompaniment, is more extensive and analyzes two items among which stand out teaching quality, comprehensive training, labor insertion and cooperation approaches, as well as social action.
Since 2007 and on a biannual basis, the UMH voluntarily donates information on the activities it undertakes in the economic, social and environmental spheres. These reports are one of the main tools that the UMH provides to inform about what is happening at the University and so all the col·lectius have access to this information. Specifically, it is aimed at students, administrative and service personnel, teaching and research personnel, suppliers, local and regional administration, secondary schools and society. In the Memory it is possible to consult, for example, the educational offer of the UMH, the advances in research, the statistics of the comptes, the presuppost or the carbon file.
As a novelty, the writing of this edition of the Report is carried out in consideration of the latest version (G4) of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guide, which constitutes an international reference for the preparation and communication of reports in this area. Along with the information on the GRI indicators, the UMH has contributed additional information from the university sphere, which the GRI guide does not address. This information comes from its own indicators, which the Planning and Qualification Service records annually since the founding of the UMH. The objective is to measure and establish indicators in the activities of all areas of the university to understand how things are.
In the final part of the document, there is a section that refers to the 10 principles of the Global Compact, which the UMH signed in 2011. The contingency is in relation to progress and actions of the UMH in matters of human and labor rights, as well as environmental protection.
However, soon the “Transparència UMH” portal will be available, in which users will be able to consult information about the activities carried out by the University. It is intended to clearly show the economic activity, as well as other details of public interest such as the public offer, the wage bands, the statutes or the statistics of comptes.
