Friederich Wilhemeigler \" width=\"154\" height=\"196\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Friedrich Wilhelm Eigler (born May 10, 1932, in Sangerhausen) is a German professor emeritus of surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche awarded Professor Friedrich Wilhelm Eigler an honorary doctorate on January 26, 2001, during the celebration of the feast day of Saint Thomas Aquinas. The solemn academic ceremony took place at 11:00 a.m. in the main auditorium of the Altabix building on the Elche campus.<\/p>\n<p>Friedrich Wilhelm Eigler, born in 1932 in Germany, was at that time the director of the Department of General Surgery at the University Hospital of Essen (Germany). A graduate in Medicine and a specialist in surgery, Friedrich Wilhelm obtained the chair of this specialty in Essen in 1971. From 1997, Wilhelm Eigler served as president of the Continuing Education Committee of the German Society of Surgery.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<div id=\"toc\" class=\"toc\" role=\"navigation\" aria-labelledby=\"mw-toc-heading\">\n<div class=\"toctitle\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"de\">Eigler studied medicine at Philipps University in Marburg, Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg, Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, and Justus Liebig University in Giessen. In 1956, he received his medical degree. He received his surgical training in Cologne from Georg Heberer. In 1971, Eigler became a full professor at what was then the Essen Medical Faculty at Ruhr University in Bochum, where he eventually became Head of the Department of General Surgery. On July 5, 1972, he performed the first kidney transplant in Essen. The first liver transplant followed in 1987. Through his clinic, Eigler was involved with Eurotransplant and the KfH board of directors for dialysis and kidney transplantation. He played a prominent role in the restructuring of the West German Cancer Center in Essen.
