The seven universities of the Valencian Community and the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation have renewed their commitment for another year to promote university sports through the Uniesport initiative. The collaboration agreements were signed on Tuesday, March 23, at the Sports Research Center (CID) on the Elche campus of the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University (UMH), and were attended by the rectors of the seven universities in the Valencian Community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Through this agreement, the eight entities will collaborate again to promote sports-related projects; contribute to the development of university sports in all its aspects; work together to raise awareness among the public and athletes about the importance of balancing sports and studies; and highlight the values \u200b\u200bof a culture of hard work, as well as the various projects promoted by the Foundation.<\/p>\n

Specifically, the following entities have signed this agreement: the Rector of the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH), Juan Jos\u00e9 Ruiz Mart\u00ednez; the Rector of the University of Valencia (UV), Mar\u00eda Vicenta Mestre Escriv\u00e0; the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Francisco Mora M\u00e1s; the Vice-Rector for Research of the University of Alicante (UA), Juan Mora Pastor; the Rector of the Jaume I University (UJI), Eva Alc\u00f3n Soler; and the Rector of the CEU Cardenal Herrera University (CEU-UCH), Vicente Navarro Luj\u00e1n. The rector of the Catholic University of Valencia Sant Vicent M\u00e0rtir (UCV), Jos\u00e9 Manuel Pag\u00e1n Agull\u00f3, and the project director of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation, Juan Miguel G\u00f3mez, were present. The directors of sports services from the various universities also attended the event.<\/p>\n

This agreement will develop several lines of action, and one of the main new features for this edition is the push to promote the internationalization of the project in two ways. Firstly, by encouraging the participation of athletes and\/or teams from Valencian universities in international championships. Specifically, the Foundation will finance 50% of the official participation costs for university teams in the European Universities Games (EUG) or World University Championships (WUC) of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).<\/p>\n

Secondly, a grant program will be launched to help university athletes purchase sports equipment bearing the Comunitat de l\u2019Esport brand. Finally, the Foundation will provide financial assistance to all FER athletes pursuing official undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral degrees.<\/p>\n

As in previous years, the seven universities of the Valencian Community have committed to participating in the celebration of “Sports Day,” which will take place on March 31, 2021. Furthermore, within the framework of the Foundation-CADU collaboration, a volunteer program will be developed for events in which the Foundation collaborates in the Valencian Community.<\/p>\n

In addition, the “5th Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards for University Athletes” will be held again; these awards are specifically for athletes with outstanding academic records. As in previous years, there will be an annual call for nominations for one male and one female award at each of the seven universities for athletes who combine their athletic careers with their university studies. In total, 14 students will be awarded \u20ac1,000 each, and a commemorative plaque will be given to each of them. Additionally, two Extraordinary Awards (best male student and best female athlete) will be awarded annually to the students with the best academic records who have completed their studies at one of the seven universities. The award will consist of \u20ac2,000 and a commemorative plaque. The Foundation will be responsible for paying the prize money.<\/p>\n

Following the signing of the agreement, the third edition of the Trinidad Alfonso Foundation Awards, which had been postponed from last year due to the exceptional health situation caused by COVID-19, were presented. Noem\u00ed Sempere and Esteban Ortu\u00f1o, students from the Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez University of Elche (UMH), were among the recipients.<\/p>\n
